What is Hip Hop

WHAT IS HIP HOP? Hip Hop was coined in 1982 by BAMBATTAA for a magazine article. But The name comes from a RAP that was said on the mic since the early 70's "hip hop shoowop da bop' by 2 people "LOVE BUG STARSKI" and KIETH COWBOY" HIP HOP started in the early 70's, it started in 1973 (so if you were not in NYC "Breakin or Party Rockin" in 73 you did not influence HIP HOP! It already existed!) -If you are still telling people that it started with SUGAR HILL GANGS "rapers delight" Then you do not know what HIP HOP is -HIP HOP was LIVE not a RAP RECORD -RAP is a product of HIP HOP MUSIC -HIP HOP was a JAM in the Parks and the Street of the South Bronx. Where DJ's "CUT BREAKS" (no drum machines) and MC's (rappers) Rocked Short Verses on the MIC with the ECHO CHAMBER. -Most people that say they LOVE and LIVE HIP HOP Today, base it on RADIO RAP and CLUB DANCE and that is COOL! "So Long as you know the True History" -HIP HOP started in the STREETS! -The Original DANCES of HIP HOP is BREAKIN, IE: ROCK STEAYDY CREW and ZULU KINGS PARTY ROCKIN, IE: MOP TOPS, ELITE FORCE -we FREE STYLED Party Rockin with Electric Boogie, and that is how we have today's HIP HOP FREESTYLE BATTLES -The original CHOREOGRAPHY STYLE of HIP HOP was Created by "MOP TOPS!" and it involved PARTY ROCKIN (the party dances of HIP HOP) -Today's Choreo style is based on STREET JAZZ ie: Micheal Peters choreography in the Micheal Jackson video "BEAT IT" That is NOT HIP HOP! It is STREET JAZZ! -SUGA POP was the first West Coast Street Style dancer to Partake in HIP HOP! He went straight to the SOURCE$ in the BRONX in 1981! and SUGA POP is the Real Reason why we NEW YORK embraced POPPING and LOCKING into HIP HOP!!! Suga Pop's name is on early album covers from Soul Sonic Force and other major Rap albums in the early 80's. Before that THE LOCKERS and ELECTRIC BOOGALOOS and the STRUTTERS did'nt even know that HIP HOP Existed! So in truth they were NOT really DOWN With HIP HOP until SUGA POP made the Connection in 1981. THIS IS WHAT A REAL HIP HOP JAM SOUNDED LIKE IN THE BRONX in the 70's before the RAP INDUSTRY started recording Rap Records.
