Groove is the Move

STUDY DANCE! Real dance. Not just Movement to Music. But actual African American, Afro, Into, Spanish DANCE.
After my injury, I realized the importance of my true Dance and Purpose. I grew up social dancing. Puerto Rican household, Parties every weekend, Food, Beer and Bacardi, Soul, Latin Soul, Disco, R&B, Slow Jams. Moved on to Hose Parties, Block Parties, Park Jams, Basement Jams, Social Clubs, Hookie Sets, Grind Parties, Freak Parties. YOU NAME IT! It was all Social. Since day one, Parents saying “that Spanish kid can dance!” And making it in every school performance.
Till that one fateful day i got smoked in a block party on my street, in front of all my people. I was humiliated. But soon after, Grooves got replaced by Blowups and Battle moves. I was so creative, i can create moves on the spot! And then came my characters and Clowning. I was burning kids left and right. Between MC’ing, Graff, and Dance. I started making a name for myself.
But now Back to the future
Since my leg blew out, been going back to y roots, and all the social dances I did as a kid in the Bronx. Freak, Smurf, Freestyle, Electric Boogie (the original version), And I realized this was my Style and Swag the whole time. In battles we forget what, how and why we do what we do.
truth is, I never danced for a F7cking dude in my life! I SMOKED THEM, I danced to Fight, I danced to get the attention of a Girl, or to get a PASS from Outlaws, Hard-rocks, and Stickup Kids. But ultimately it was always the MUSIC. Dress, and Express with Finesse, Bless those who try to Impress, and nothing Less, blast on fools, take nothing less than first, f&ck 2nd best.
The Mission:
MY GROOVE IS MY POWER MOVE, The Bronx BBOY SWAG is my style, My Moves are Blow Ups (keep's under the sleeve, never FLASH your am0) GROOVE IN THE CIPHERS, Aim those Guns, catch Bodies, wipe off the sweat, and get a slow dance at the end of the jam.
Today i can say i truly am dancing the way i was raised. And i feel better about that, especially when i teach. I am teaching with Passion and groove. and on top of that, i put all the moves and eye candy that the kids want to learn. Keep my ear to the streets, catch they vibe without compromising mine, talk with the hands, and an occasional blow up dont hurt nobody.

Longevity

DANCERS NOTE: IMHO: from years of experience in DANCE and going through INJRY, and Longevity. And learning how to avoid Aches and Pains that are already natural in Humans bodies and Earths Gravity.. IMHO..Even the greatest athletes still develop bad lifelong Back Aches.. -1st rule of thumb: IMHO: NEVER TAKE ADVICE about INJURY from a person who has had more than 2 SURGERIES!!!! for the same Dance! Learn from people who had ONE or NO surgery! And are still active Dancers who know how to LISTEN to there BODY! and understand that every human has DIFFERENT LIMITATIONS! IMHO... if a person trying to help you started by saying "trust me, I had 4 surgeries" =/ lol...RUN!!!!!! -Remember when planning your workouts daily. To Factor in your Actual Dance Class HOURS, Sessions HOURS, and Show Work Rate. And then CALCULATE and factor in REST! -Some of the concepts of Training for Dance has become Dangerous. For instance, if your Doing any kind of Aerobics, Remember Hip Hop and FUNK Dance is an Aerobics in itself. If your just trying to Target certain core Training, that is understandable, but most Aerobics are simple repeated Dance Drills. Your DANCE is FITNESS! (as a dance teacher) Understanding your movement and what body part it targets should be part of natural regiment. -The development of Useless Muscles. Muscle that you don't even need for your dance, Cosmetic Muscle? I learned this the hard way. Your body cannot support Useless Muscle when your dancing. Trust.... if the muscle area does not develop naturally in your dance, then you don't need it! Or don't need Excessive amounts of it. -The Best Muscle for most dancers is LOOSE MUSCLE. Tight Muscle is like "where do you go from there?" Unless Your style is complete physical strength like BBOY IVAN, who does not even need to go to the GYM to gain Muscle, he simply does his Style of Breaking and Eats right, and naturally develops.. - And one of My Biggest warnings, is CERTAIN TRAINING develops certain MUSCLE MEMORY. But that Muscle memory does not necessarily Translate into success in HIP HOP and FUNK DANCE! I can't tell you the countless amount of FITNESS INSTRUCTORS that Gassed out in my Classes!!! there Fitness development has no effect in a POPPING or LOCKING CLASS. Sprints (great for explosive energy), but does not guarentee you can kill a 1 minute Breaking solo with full energy... The best Fitness workout for HIP HOP DANCE.....is HIP HOP DANCE!!!!
