My First Beat Machine
This was like an iPhone Beat maker for us in the early 80's
if you didn't have this machine, you didn't have a Hip Hop Childhood. (and ya moms wore timberlands, camo hoodies, n was the fat dude in the back of all the WU videos)
This the entry level to Beat Making 101. Every BBOY/DJ/BOOGIE BOY, MC was messing with it. Because Sequencing was a new thing! Truth! It had a built in sequencer! and cats was buying SEQUENCERS separate from machines at the time. So it was a Home Work Station for YOUNG G's
This was the gadget for every aspiring Hip Hop head to play with, and create rhythms for dance. I got mine from a Dealer! hahaha, truth, It was during our Electric Company Boogie Boy days. So we was messing with it, making variations of Numbers, Trans Europe Express, and eventually Planet Rock.
People doubted the sound. But as i grew older in making beats, i always re sampled those HI HATS, and SNARES! They Snap Cracked and POPPED just right! if you dropped heavy bass on a beat, you wanted those hats on your track, and you wanted to layer the snare on top of a sample and give it that PITCH!
Made everything from Showcase music, to Freestyle Tracks for MC practice, and rocked it live in some shows as well.
Classic memories of a Young PR bronx BOOGIE Boy. ;)
