But it was:
CLIVE"KOOL HERC" CAMPBELL
Born in Jamaica then migrated to the Bronx, It was in Jamaica where Kool Herc learned about Toasting and DJ sound system culture. Herc had one of the most powerful sound systems in the Bronx. In a 1973 Jam (Party) Herc went against the grain of mixing disco music and instead chose to focus on the Break Beat. (That is the Funky Drum Break you hear in allot of popular Soul and R&B records of the 60's and 70's)
Herc did what he called the "Merry Go Round". He would drop the Break from a song like "The Mexican" and then drop the Break from a song like James Brown "Sex Machine" And the rest was history.

THE NAME HIP HOP
The name comes from 2 popular 70's pioneers MC's.
-DJ/MC LoveBug Starski: Who used the phrase "HIP HOP SHOOWOP DA BOP" to keep the party rocking.
-MC Kieth Cowboy (RIP): From the famous "Furious 5" who dropped the phrase at a jam for a friend going to the armed service, so he chanted "Hip Hip Hip Hop Hop" imitating an Army style chant. But it was in 1981 that Afrika Bambaattaa (while doing an interview for a magazine) was asked what do we call this street culture. And BAM said "Hip Hop Shoowop da Bop". And the article was titled "HIP HOP CULTURE". The rest is history.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAP AND MC
-MC: (Master of Ceremony, Mic Controller) An Original MC rocked to Break Beats. DJ and MC were a Unit. An MC is also a Party Rocker as well as Lyricist. these were the original Mic Controllers before the RAP Industry. MC Crews would also rock Live Routines at a Jam, and Dance and do full scale performances.
-RAP: (Rap, Gift of Gab, Chat to a Girl, saying something Deep) Rap as a form of Hip Hop Music, is established with the Recording industry in the late 70's with the commercial song 'rappers delight" Rap has many meanings, one being "recording Artist Production" Based more on Making rap Recordings first with a Disco Band, and later on with Drum Machines.
The biggest difference people will say is that an MC represent the Culture of HIP HOP and Rocks the Crowd, while the Rapper only wants to make Rap songs and has zero knowledge of HIP HOP and it's meaning. Most Rappers don't acknowledge the 4 Elements of Hip Hop.

Bua Paints Hip Hop

Justin Bua is probably the most well known Urban Artist on the planet. I am sure either you, or someone you know has a Bua poster on his or her wall right now. He grew up on the same streets as many original Hip Hop Icons like Frosty Freeze (RIP) and Ken Swift. And has lived the life of a New York Street Style Dancer and Artist. His paintings sell all over the world, and his client list is a who's who of the Music, Athletic and Political world. For this brother to honor me in such a way has touched me deep, because I never really look at myself as an achiever, but more as a person who is still striving to achieve.
